Therapeutic Massage Techniques

Deep Tissue Massage

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding those muscles. Deep tissue work can relieve chronic pain due to contracted muscles in the neck and upper back, low back, legs, and shoulders. Deep tissue massage is effective in breaking up scar tissue and breaking down “knots” or adhesions in the muscle that disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Myofascial Release Therapy (MRT)

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY (MRT) involves applying gentle, sustained pressure on the myofascial (connective tissue) to eliminate pain and restore range of motion. Fascia is a complex matrix that threads itself throughout the body, surrounding the muscles, organs, nerves and bones. Fascia is the element in the body that holds everything together. Hence, the impact of a myofascial release in one area can be felt in other areas of the body.

Structural Integration

STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION involves soft tissue manipulation that organizes the whole body within the context of gravity. The work goes deep to manipulate the body’s myofascial system (connective tissue) to affect posture and the body’s structure. This method of massage is used to reduce pain and chronic muscle tension, break up scar tissue, rehabilitate injuries, and increase range of motion to improve athletic performance and avoid future injuries.

Swedish Massage

SWEDISH MASSAGE is designed to relieve muscle tension and relax and energize the body. Swedish is the most common and best-known type of massage in the Western world. Specialized Therapies

Specific to Your Unique Situation

The ideal massage for you can depend on your circumstances and where your body needs relief. If you’re pregnant or have recently delivered, pre- or post-natal massage has unique benefits. Reflexology and cranial sacral therapy focus on specific parts of the body. Reike involves the transmission of energy. A sports massage targets the overworked and misaligned muscles of athletes and highly active men and women. When it’s time to rid the body of toxins, the ionic foot bath works magic.

Cranial Sacral Therapy

CRANIAL SACRAL THERAPY is a gentle, non-invasive form of therapy that addresses the bones of the head, spinal column and sacrum. The goal is to release compression in those areas and alleviate stress and pain. Cranial sacral therapy seeks to restore the natural position of the bones. Benefits include lessening stress from chronic injuries and providing relief from headaches, migraines, and neck and back pain.

Cupping

CUPPING is an ancient form of alternative therapy that involves the placement of special cups on the skin to create suction. Cupping is used to lessen pain, reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and promote relaxation and well-being. Cupping can be done dry or wet; both methods are effective. The practice dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical texts in the world describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.

Hot Stone Massage

HOT STONE MASSAGE involves the use of hot stones to reduce tension and stress in the body, ease muscle soreness, relax stiff muscles, and increase circulation and metabolism. During a hot stone massage, smooth, water-heated stones are placed at key points in the body to promote deep muscle relaxation. Hot stones are sometimes used to relax the muscle and allow the therapist to work deep muscle tissue. In addition to easing muscle tension and pain, hot stone massage reduces stress and anxiety and promotes sleep.

Ionic Foot Bath

IONIC FOOT BATH removes toxins from the body through the feet. Epsom salt is dissolved in a tub of hot water; the feet soak in the water for 30 minutes with an ionic array. The ions hold a charge that enables them to bind to heavy metals and toxins in the body, similar to how a magnet works. Toxins in the body are drawn out through the pores in the feet, changing the color of the water as the body is cleansed of toxins. The color depends on which organs are detoxifying.

Pre/Post Natal Massage

PRE/POST NATAL MASSAGE helps to alleviate the symptoms common to pregnancy, including lower back pain, headaches, stress, and swollen and achy legs and feet. After the baby comes, massage can help get your body back on track. Post-natal massage can help with residual birthing pain, pelvic floor alignment and health, and loss of energy. Massage supports healthy lactation and the healing of scar tissue. It also improves circulation, reduces the discomfort of excess fluid retention, and helps the body’s organs regain their positioning prior to pregnancy. Lastly, massage contributes to your overall health and well-being.

Reflexology

REFLEXOLOGY involves the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, and ears. The theory of reflexology posits that these points correspond to different organs and systems in the body; applying pressure to the points enhances overall health. Reflexology is commonly used to complement other treatments for a range of conditions, including anxiety, diabetes, headaches, asthma, cancer, and cardiovascular issues.

REIKI

REIKI is a century-old Japanese technique credited with bringing about inner peace and harmony. It’s a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel universal energy into the client by means of touch. This energy is believed to activate the natural healing processes of the body and restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki reduces stress and promotes relaxation, which triggers the body’s natural immune system. Reiki aids in better sleep and improves and maintains health.
